Khopra Danda Trek
Khopra Danda Trek
One of Nepal’s least visited trekking areas is the 10-day Khopra Ridge Khayer Lake trip. It is frequently compared to the Ghorepani Poon Hill walk and is situated south of the Annapurna Ranges. Poon Hill is 3,210 meters, and Mt. Khopra Danda is somewhat higher at 3,640 meters. Because Khopra Danda is higher than Poon Hill, it might provide somewhat greater views.
Overview
Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167 meters), Annapurna I (8091 meters), Nilgiri (7061 meters), Bahrashikhar (7,647 meters), Annapurna South (7,219 meters), Annapurna II (7,937 meters), and other enormous mountains can be observed from Khopra Danda. The elevation of Khayer Lake is 4,660 meters.
You will go to the famous Poon Hill (3210m) viewpoint early in the morning to see the sunrise over the nearby snow-capped mountains. Take out your camera as the walk winds through verdant forests with stunning red, pink, and white rhododendrons. The most well-liked trek in the Annapurna region is the Poon Hill portion.
The Khopra Ridge walk travels through dense rhododendron, oak, and pine forests. There are many vistas of the Himalayan Mountains throughout the walk. At lower elevations, you will pass several terraced farmlands. You will see different cultures, such as the Magar and Gurung people, in their unique settlements. There are several lodges and tea shops on Khopra Ridge. We can take a breather at these spots and interact with the local people. Compared to other more well-known treks, this one is less crowded, quieter, and more serene. Families whose only goal is to see the breathtaking mountain vistas up close without needing to acclimate before moving on to higher altitudes will find this excursion to be perfect.
Starting in Pokhara, the hike path passes through isolated Magar and Gurung villages, with Ghandruk village being one of the most famous. Aside from the typical Annapurna Base Camp or Circuit Trek, it is an ideal off-the-beaten trekking route.
You can start trekking to Khopra Danda via Ghorepani after taking a jeep or public transportation to Nayapul or Hille. However, you must first travel to Pokhara by car (6–8 hours) or airplane (approximately 25 minutes) if you are in Kathmandu. If you choose this route, you can finish the 55 km (34 miles) Khopra Danda Trekking in 8–10 days.
Location of Khopra Danda
The Annapurna region of Nepal is home to the stunning Khopra Danda trek. It provides a broad perspective of the region’s mountains and is located north of Pokhara and southwest of the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) hiking area. From one of the three vantage locations, you can see the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Machhapuchhre mountains.

Detailed Itinerary - Khopra Danda Trek (10 Days)
Starting in Pokhara, the hike path passes through isolated Magar and Gurung villages, with Ghandruk village being one of the most famous. Aside from the typical Annapurna Base Camp or Circuit Trek, it is an ideal off-the-beaten trekking route.

Get up early at Ghandruk to see Himchuli, Annapurna South, and Mount Machhapuchre for the first time. After breakfast, begin walking along the forest track in the direction of Deurali. In April, the trails and scenery are adorned with rhododendron and other flowers. We arrive at the lovely village of Tadapani after traversing a pass.
Get up and savor your breakfast. In the isolated area of Annapurna, we will veer off the main trail. As we move onward, we occasionally catch a glimpse of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna South. Additionally, Dobato Hamlet offers breathtaking views of the Alps. Have fun in Dobato for the remainder of the day.
Today, the trail must descend to Lower Chistibung and then ascend to Upper Chistibung. A magnificent sense of freedom and pleasure can be experienced while strolling through the verdant, blooming forest, grassland, and agricultural areas. Even rare pheasant species (Lhophoporus/Danfe), Nepal’s national bird, can be seen at elevations above 2,500 meters.
Take pleasure in strolling through the expansive area and stunning jungle to get at the picturesque Chistibung (lower region). Up until now, we would have gone down to get there. The ascent now begins in the direction of Upper Chistibung. Go to Upper Chistibung to rest your tired limbs.
Kaire Lake is located on Khorpa Ridge’s eastern side. For Buddhists and Hindus, the lake holds holy significance. To achieve peace with your soul, or at least your hands, wash yourself a little to atone for your transgressions. Since the only tea house in the area is located back on the Khopra Ridge, lunch will need to be brought.
Start by slowly descending on a steep local trail after breakfast. Continue walking the trail, passing by picturesque forest, Dhaulagiri mountain views, farmlands, locals, animals, and other village clusters along the way. As you descend, use a stick to ease the strain on your knees.
After a good breakfast in Swanta, you’ll begin your gentle uphill walk toward Chitre, passing via rhododendron forests and small local settlements. The trek slowely ascends, offering glimpses of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges along the way. After about three hours of trekking, you’ll reach Ghorepani, the beautiful mountain village known for its stunning sunset views and cozy teahouses.
Today, we start early in the morning with a short hike up to Poon Hill, one of the most popular viewpoints in Nepal. From the top, you’ll witness a beautiful sunrise over the Himalayas, illuminating peaks like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre. After enjoying the view, descend back to Ghorepani for breakfast and continue trekking downhill through lush forests and terraced fields until you reach Hille, a peaceful village where you’ll spend the night there.
On your last day of the trek, enjoy an easy walk through the lower hills, following the river and passing cultural villages. The trek gradually descends to Birethanti and then to Nayapul, where your trek officially finishes. From Nayapul, you’ll take a scenic drive back to Pokhara, where you can relax and enjoy by the lakeside and celebrate the completion of your journey.
